The large inflow of German immigrants to Texas within the mid-1800s stimulated land product sales in south-central Texas. Johann Theodor Gerfers, his wife Maria, as well as their 4 young children arrived in Texas in 1848. Gerfers obtained the very first land (a hundred and sixty acres) inside the Timberwood area and began cattle and sheep ranching.
